This sculptural brooch was created as an homage to Sir Richard Wallace by Irish artist Emma Whitehead, who spent an Artist’s Residency with the Wallace Collection in London. Whitehead also trained with the British Horological Society, which inspired her love of antique timepieces. Her “Time Bug” series explores the historical origins of time measurement, the relationship to manufacturing, and the concepts of time – given, saved, wasted and spent—in the bodies of fantastical insects. This piece was sourced in Paris at a charity event to restore Sir Richard Wallace’s home, the exquisite Chateau de Bagatelle, and the beautiful Wallace Fountains, created to provide clean and free drinking water to city of Paris.
