Bring on the holiday parties! This glorious necklace would have graced some very festive French necks over the last century. Imagine where this necklace has been! Large red and aurora-borealis crystal stones are in a lovely gilt metal setting. Given the age of the clasp, colour and the quality, this was possibly created by the fashion house Christian Dior as all early pieces were regrettably unsigned.
Barrel clasp.
In 1956, French fashion designer Christian Dior collaborated with Daniel Swarovski's grandson, Manfred, to introduce the Aurora Borealis: an iridescent coating applied to crystal rhinestones that produced a rainbow effect. For around 10 years, these pieces became the height of fashion and are now extremely desirable, especially when they are found in unusual colours.
