A magnificent Italian lava cameo depicting the Flora, the Roman goddess of the flowering of plants and fertility in the garden, set within a beautiful gilt rope setting.
Trombone clasp.
During the early 19th century, well-heeled tourists flocked to the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. Grand Tour jewelry became very popular as souvenirs of their visits, and lava stone was in abundance. Lava cameos are exceptional in that they can be carved with much more depth than their shell and agate counterparts, and are now highly desirable.
