Maison Augis, a distinguished French jewelry house, was founded in Lyon in 1830 by Eugène Coquais, a jeweler who opened his first jewelry store that year. His son-in-law, Charles Augis, a watchmaker, later took over the business, and in 1894, Charles's son, Alphonse Augis, assumed leadership, renaming the company A. Augis.In 1907, Alphonse Augis created the iconic "Médaille d'Amour" (Love Medal), inspired by a verse from Rosemonde Gérard's 1889 poem "Les Vieux," dedicated to her husband, Edmond Rostand. The verse reads: "Car vois-tu, chaque jour je t’aime davantage, aujourd’hui plus qu’hier et bien moins que demain" ("For you see, each day I love you more, today more than yesterday and much less than tomorrow"). Augis artistically condensed this sentiment into a rebus featuring the symbols "+ qu’hier - que demain" ("more than yesterday, less than tomorrow"). This creation achieved immediate success and became a signature piece for the Maison.
