A rare antique French silver, gilt brass and mother-of-pearl brooch featuring Joan of Arc. I especially love the contrast of the gold and silver tones, plus the exceptional craftsmanship. The Art Nouveau period is notable in that often the jewelry pieces are nearly as decorative on the backs of the items as on the fronts. This brooch can also be worn suspended on a chain to create an interesting and unusual necklace (see last image).
Trombone Clasp.
Joan of Arc is the patron saint of France and a symbol of feminine strength and bravery. Symbolically, keys have not only been known to represent the unlocking of new doors, but also as a symbol of letting go, new beginnings, luck and love.
