What flair! This exquisite antique sterling silver French Art Deco-era brooch from the 1920s – 1930s oozes sophisticated glamour. Featuring a design of two leaves tied with a bow, each detail is highlighted by the finely cut marcasites embedded throughout. This large statement brooch is just as wearable today for day or evening as it was 100 years ago.
Trombone clasp.
Though used in antique jewelry pieces for centuries, marcasites had a renaissance in the Art Deco period (1920s–1930s) due to their affordability, versatility, and aesthetic appeal. The Art Deco era celebrated luxury, but not everyone could afford diamonds and platinum. Marcasite (iron pyrite) was a stylish and cost-effective alternative, often set in silver to mimic the sparkle of more expensive gems. Art Deco jewelry emphasized symmetry, bold geometric shapes, and intricate patterns. Marcasite's metallic luster and ability to be cut into small, faceted shapes made it perfect for creating the detailed, shimmering designs characteristic of the period, and also complemented both daytime and evening wear.
Sourced in France and curated by Paris-based Vivienne Birt for Chateau Love, this brooch embodies the timeless sophistication and meticulous artistry that defines our carefully selected chateau-worthy collection of luxurious antique and vintage jewelry.
